Having a mom who is an English teacher comes with certain burdens. I wouldn’t know–the only book my mom has read (although she has read it about a million times–no exaggeration) is the Bible–but my children will certain carry the cross of having had me as a mom for many reasons, with one of those reasons is my insistence on reading.
The other night I was up super late doing God knows what, and I heard Nico talking in his sleep. I turned down the TV to figure out what he was saying, and he started screaming, so I ran into their room. I stood over the bottom bunk, where he was fully asleep, and listened to him yell at full volume:
“I WANT THE BOOK! GIVE ME THE BOOK! I WANT THE BOOOOOOOK!”
And I just laughed–quietly–to myself.
Will he be talking about that in therapy one day?
If only my students were demanding books in their sleep…
